How to craft for Christmas
If I’m going to do a Christmas craft it’s going to be straightforward, use items I already have, look good even if I do it with a three year old and, preferably, be based on the Christmas story. Here are my faves for doing with a Sunday School class, at home or as part of an outreach event.
Away in a Manger
This Baby Jesus Christmas Star by Glued to my Crafts has enough different parts to make it interesting for a range of ages in Sunday School but is simple enough that you won’t have to supervise everyone at every step. Plus it’s cute enough to hang on your Christmas Trees.
While Shepherds Watch
This cute Cupcake Liner Shepherd plus optional sheep by Danielle’s Place can also be made with circles of paper if that’s what you need. Pre-folding his robe, sleeves and head covering will make it easier for little-er ones. And if you want time to tell the story at the same time colouring in the paper with your own designs first should give you more than enough time for that.
Star of Wonder, Star of Light
There are so many different ways to make stars, I like this star made out of wool wrapped round a piece of card made into complicated star like patterns by mini mad things. This is simple but would look stunning, even done by a small child, with gold and silver thread on a black background.
Angels from the Realms of Glory
If you’re ever in need of a choir of angels you want them to be quick and simple to make - these little Paper Cone Angels as shown on The Craft Train are just what you want for that. You could also scale this simple design up to make a large angel Gabriel.
Oh, Holy Night
For a scene with the whole holy family on I love this Stained Glass Window Style Nativity from I Heart Arts n Crafts. This is so simple and you can make it plastic free by gluing your tissue paper to the stable outline or to white tissue paper.
I’ve gathered more crafts representing characters from the Bible Story on this Nativity Pinterest Board and if you want other Christmassy crafts like Christmas trees, presents and gingerbread you can find them here.
