Reading: Ephesians 6:1-9

Discussion questions
v1-3
Where have you heard ‘honour your father and mother’ before? Why do you think it comes with this promise?
v4 How easy is the instruction to fathers?
v5-8 How are slaves to respond to their masters? In what way are they working for Christ?
v9 How does Paul’s instructions go against what people thought about slaves and how they should be treated? Why doesn’t Paul talk about freedom for slaves?
Think about this passage and Ephesians 5:21-33 in what ways should Christians live differently to everyone else? What are the costs of living differently?

Pray that God would help families to live his way.
Ask Jesus to free those who are forced to work as slaves.

Extra activities: Listen to a couple of the 5 Minutes in Church History podcasts, then talk about how their lives looked different to the lives of people around them. My favourites are Martin and Katie, Elizabeth Elliot, and Augustine.
